Helko Werk Premium

We produce a range of premium handforged hatchets and axes under our historic "Helko Werk Crown" logo and brand. We have three collection's within our premium range, The Traditional, Classic and Vario.

Traditional Collection

We have adopted the "Traditional" wide bit German pattern heads for this collection and have kept the look of the axe as traditonal as possible.  Once forged, which is done by hand with an open die, we undertake as little supplementary work to the surface as is possible to preserve the traditional hand forged surface finish.  The blade edge ( + 30mm), is then tempered to a hardness of 53-55 HRC to provide a strong edge that will be tough and resilient allowing it to hold its edge for a reasonable period of work, while being not too hard as to risk fracture or chipping and allow sharpening of the edge.  The edge is worked by hand through a process of grinding and buffing to produce a sharp working edge.  Once the smith is satisfied with their work, the Helko Werk Crown logo is hammered into the cheek of the head. No two pieces are exactly alike, making each tool truly unique.  Handles are of air dried US Hickory, hand cut and finished with linseed oil.  Each tool comes with a heavy duty adjustable leather sheath for personal safety and protection and preservation of the tool.

Classic Collection

The Classic collection combines verstility, functionality and aesthetics into a unique eye-catching tool.  Using US felling pattern heads these hatchets and axes are ideal for those in search of a general purpose axe that offers "stand out in a crowd" styling.  Once forged, which is done by hand with an open die, the blade edge ( + 30mm), is then tempered to a hardness of 53-55 HRC to provide a strong edge that will be tough and resilient allowing it to hold its edge for a reasonable period of work, while being not too hard as to risk fracture or chipping and allow sharpening of the edge.  The head is then hand ground, buffed and polished to a highly reflective finish.  After polishing, the edge is re-ground to produce a sharp even blade.  Once the smith is satisfied with their work, the Helko Werk Crown logo is hammered into the cheek of the head.  Handles are of air dried US Hickory, hand cut and finished with linseed oil.  Each tool comes with a heavy duty adjustable leather sheath for personal safety and protection and preservation of the tool.

Vario Collection

The Vario offers a unique curved, ergonomic design that provides perfect balance - minimising fatigue and maximising power transfer resulting in highly efficient striking force.  Our patented screw system, offers easy interchangability of axe heads, blade types and handle lenghths. Six different head designs and three handle lengths cover the majority of applications unsuring that you always have the right tool for the job.  Heads are open die drop forged by hand.  Handles are of air dried US Hickory, hand cut and finished with a light lacquer and a black dip.  Each tool comes with a heavy duty adjustable leather sheath for personal safety and protection and preservation of the tool.
